ARM Unveils Mali-DP650 Power-Efficient 4K Mobile Display

Mobile technology is growing rapidly both in terms of device capability and display screens, from HD resolution (1280 × 720) to Quad HD ( 2560 × 1440) resolution and  WQXGA (2560 x 1600), ARM launched display processor Mali GPU-DP650, It can support more 4k capable video experience. And it is mainly designed for excellent picture quality and extending battery life, said Mark Dickinson, general manager,  ARM.

First, what is a GPU? This is a key component inside your smartphone, it is key because it interprets the digital content produced by the CPU and GPU into a timed format that can be understood by the screen itself.

Coming to the technical details, the company has doubled the size of its AXI bus within a Mali-DP650 to 128 bits and uses a mode of “split screen” to double the pixel data rate an effective way to deal with all this mass of pixels that required for high-resolution screens. A variable frame rate is also available in order to optimize the efficiency of energy used, which will provide better support to the high-end design mobile applications.

But that’s not all: ARM, also included some extra features with its processor, based on the capacity of its predecessor, the Mali-DP550. The DP650 can support the image rotation, scaling and ARM Frame Buffer Compression (AFBC) tasks itself, It is an alternative to the GPU, This graphic processor is mainly designed for 4K resolution at 60 fps, But ARM recommends Mali-DP550 for full HD and HD screen resolution.

DP650 also supports extending the battery life feature. This will release the workload and it will reduce energy consumption. It is designated to ensure fluidity at 60 fps, even in the case of 4K. It will provide great support to the consumers to download digital content. It is one of the best optimized formats for WQXGA and WQHD resolution to the mobile screen, like the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium? In any case, the Mali-DP650 is a processor that looks promising, Qualcomm and Samsung are the big mobile chip makers. ARM has specialized in this field. In addition, ARM revealed a partnership with BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd.
